Myth and misconception No. 4: Resubmitting every month
"We need to resubmit our site to 1000 engines each month"
This article is accurate as/of January 10, 2003
CORRECTION:
Even if it was necessary to resubmit your web site every month (which it's not),
there are simply not "thousands" of search engines that are worth submitting to.
Nothing could be further from the truth. In the real world, there are only about a
dozen or so major Web search engines and a few good directories that, as a whole, provide
about 97% of all Internet search engine results in the world.
Many businesses and corporations are flooded almost daily with useless spam and emails that claim to offer a monthly submittal service for a small monthly fee. The majority of the search engines that these services plan to submit your site to are, for the most part, totally unknown to the search community. Additionally, almost all of the major search engines and directories are voluntarily programmed to ignore automated submission to begin with, and, if that was'nt enough, require you to submit your whole web site by hand, wich is a very time consuming operation to begin with.
So what do you get in return for paying the monthly charges ? Less and less money in your business bank account... plus knowing that your site will NOT be visible by the important engines such as Google, Yahoo, Alta-Vista, Teoma... etc.
Google downgrades a site when resubmitted every month
It all depends on how serious your marketing program is. If you really want your site
to yield the best ROI (Return on Investment), then invest in a
quality SEO program done by a team of
professional, knowledgeable people. If you don't really
care that much, try resubmitting to a thousand engines each month and then see your
rankings actually go DOWN in Google. Some search engines, Google especially, will
actually downgrade a site when it is resubmitted every month. It is against
Google's rules to submit more than once for each page of a site. We have even seen some
sites totally banned from the Google engine, because of excessive monthly resubmittals.
In our experience, once a site is banned from the major Internet search engines,
unfortunately, it's too late to try anything else and it will remain banned for a very
long time.
Remember that Google is the most-used search engine on the Internet today, even in Japan and in China. Google now is accessible in more than 15 languages, at last count. More than 90% of Web surfers use Google daily for their searches, both at work and at home. In our view, it is the best search engine in existence today.
The only way to get a much higher, prioritized ranking in all major search engines such as Google, Yahoo, Alta-Vista and the others is to invest in a quality SEO program done by professionals. Contact GCIS.
