SEO: Illegal and unethical behavior
In an attemp to rank higher in Google, Lycos, Alta-Vista and the other major Web search engines, some companies will try in using what the SEO industry terms "Illegal and Unethical SEO Behavior". If you think it sounds bad, well it is. Of course you won't go to jail for it (!) but, in the long run, it is definitely bad for your site's rankings.
Just what could be considered illegal and unethical?
We will try to answer that question the best way possible. Search Engine Optimization
(SEO) is still a relatively new field. Beware of companies or individuals that claim
they have been in the SEO business for 8 or 10 years. At the Center, we have been

In order of importance, here are some techniques or practices that the SEO industry categorizes as illegal or unethical behavior:
Resubmitting a Web page more than once
Using multiple domain names or URL's
Using doorway or gateway pages
Using cloaking software or its techniques
Using invisible text or text that is concealed
We have tried to cover the most often-used-and-abused unethical techniques here. As could be expected, there is a lot more. And there are probably people that will discover more illegal ways in trying to increase their rankings in the major engines. But, as you can see, GCIS strongly discourages anybody from using such techniques.
